Bernard Robertson - Biographical Notes

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Bernard Robertson, who directed our November concert in Haddington, as Music Director. Bernard enjoys an unusually varied career as a freelance keyboard-player; as orchestral pianist, he has played in all the Scottish and most of the English orchestras, and currently works regularly with the LSO and LPO. As continuo player, he has appeared with several of the UK's leading period-instrument ensembles, and with SCO and Scottish Ensemble. He has been a member of music staff at Glyndebourne since 1998, and his operatic activities also include spells at Scottish Opera, Opera North, and several of the leading French houses, such as Lyon and Strasbourg. He has played in many shows, eg The King and I, Martin Guerre, and Edward Scissorhands, and has recorded music for many radio and TV productions. Intensely proud of his Scottish ancestry (through his father), he has worked regularly in Scotland for 20 years. In addition to the activities mentioned above, he has appeared regularly at the Edinburgh Festival, in orchestras, opera companies, and as repetiteur and assistant conductor; elsewhere he has played in a large variety of ensembles. He is a guest coach in the opera department of the RSAMD.

We look forward to further projects with Bernard in 2008/9.
